Sherwood is a non-auditioned community concert band based in SE Calgary.

Adult musicians, of all levels, meet up to rehearse or perform on Wednesday evenings. Every year the band performs several concerts, at seniors’ homes and for family and friends.

Rehearsals

We rehearse at MidSun School - 660 Sunmills Drive SE from 7:00pm to 8:55pm. Doors open at 6:45pm. We must vacate the school by 9:00pm.

History

The band started with a group of parents whose children were in the band program at Sherwood School. The original name of the group was the Sherwood-Like-To-Play Community Band.

Meet Our Conductor
Blake Lewis

Blake Doucet-Lewis has been studying, teaching, performing, and composing music throughout his career.

He is extremely passionate about the importance of music education, performance and expression, and finding communities through music. He is currently the Director of Bands at Tom Baines School where he leads a junior high band program of about 250 students in grade 7-9.

Prior to teaching with the Calgary Board of Education, Blake taught music privately for 17 years and performed regularly on the violin and the piano in various ensembles, such as the Calgary Civic Symphony and recently has played in pit bands with Front Row Centre.

When he is not working, he composes and loves spending time with his wife, daughter, and two dogs.
